Um die gefürchtete Brennelementesteuer zu verhindern, wollen die Kernkraftwerksbetreiber Eon, RWE, Vattenfall und EnBW mit der Regierung einen „Energiewirtschaftsvertrag“ schließen. Darin bieten sie 20 bis 30 Milliarden Euro an, verlangen aber im Gegenzug eine Laufzeitverlängerung um zwölf Jahre und den Verzicht auf die Abgabe. Während die in der Koalition bereits verabredete Brennelementesteuer von jährlich 2,3 Milliarden Euro in jedem Fall fällig würde, sieht der Vertrag ausdrücklich vor, dass kein Geld fließt, falls die Laufzeitverlängerung abgeblasen oder zurückgenommen wird. Auch entfiele die Verpflichtung, wenn „die Zahlungen nicht unbeschränkt als steuerlich abzugsfähige Betriebsausgaben anerkannt werden“.

vdr revisited

I am running a headless vdr on my old Eee. Unfortunately, the version shipped with Ubuntu (1.6.0) seems not tameable; recordings crash the vdr; it’s somewhere between vdradmin, dvb-tools and vdr that the channels.conf and recording screw up. I updated to 1.7.15 (devel) and it seems to work now. In that process I also managed to setup the streaming of recordings to my PS3 via mediatomb and recoding for my android phone – cool :)

Quite often, if you talk to Apple Fanboys about their iPhone, they say „but the apps are checked if they could cause any harm“. Well, here’s an example how thoroughly those apps are „checked“ – a simple ‚flashing light‘ app contained a network server that nobody in Cupertino noticed until engadget ran a story on this…

You may ask yourself, why on earth would anyone pay 99 cents for an iPhone app whose sole purpose is to flash bright, solid colors? We certainly wouldn’t recommend it, but Handy Light has a great little Easter egg that undoubtedly doesn’t jive with the folks at Cupertino HQ. Like Nullriver’s Netshare app before it, this little piece of software allows for SOCKS proxy tethering, without having to sign up for AT&T’s tethering plan.

Next European Milestone and 2.2 Froyo. I have expressed over the last  few days that the decision is pending.

Oh well. My first Android Device was a Samsung Galaxy (I7500), which did get official Android 1.5 updates; an Android 1.6 images was leaked, which made it possible for custom rom cookers to publish a modded 1.6 version. The GAOSP project ported 2.1, but without support for the camera. Long story short, even if the specs of the Samsung Galaxy S are impressive, I won’t buy one.

With the Motorola Milestone, it’s different. The phone has a hardware implemented signature check (like the Droid X) that prevents it from booting roms that haven’t been released by Motorola. If Motorola decides to not update the Milestone anymore, I will be stuck with Android 2.1 – missing out new features (like, with Android 2.2, the JIT compiler).

In this case it’s „Bye bye Motorola“ for me. The list of manufacturers to buy from gets shorter and shorter. HTC has known not to lock down it’s devices (those can be unlocked using simple hacks; it looks like to be intended to give a small, but not impossible challenge to the developers).

I am working on my new vpn setup. So far, I can ping the local 192.168.10.0/24 network from the vServer, but that’s about it – the TV Box doesn’t see the 10.10.0.0/24 network, and is not able to ping the roadwarrior.

Well, some reading to do during vacation!

… und zwar zu netclusive. Dort gibt’s nämlich vServer mit (auf Anfrage) TUN/TAP interface.

Warum ich das brauche?

Nun, da es bei mir Zuhause gerade gefühlte 45°C warm ist (ich mach also der deutschen Bahn noch keine Konkurrenz), habe ich mir überlegt, mal ein wenig meiner Hardware auszulagern und zu konsolidieren. Das heißt, mein VPN-Endpunkt zieht jetzt vom heimischen Schreibtisch in’s Internet um, und reauktion.de eben auch.

Der Preis bei netclusive liegt geringfügig über dem des alten vServers, aber dafür sind die Leistungen besser (selbst in der Sparversion 1GB RAM vs. 256MB, 30GB HDD vs. 5GB).

Und da ich ja ab nächster Woche Urlaub hab’…
